On 26 April 2026, following three years of intensive negotiations between the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament, an agreement was reached on the new Union Customs Code (hereinafter: the nUCC). The rapid growth of e-commerce, the increasing responsibilities of customs authorities and the current geopolitical landscape have made the modernisation of customs legislation a necessity.

The nUCC marks an important step in the much-needed reform of the European Union (EU) Customs Union. To make trade more modern and fairer, the agreement introduces significant changes to customs processes and strengthens customs cooperation between EU Member States. This presentation outlines the key elements of these changes. The implementation of these customs reforms is expected to continue until at least 2034.
