COMPANIES, GOVERNMENT & INSTITUTIONS

Local authorities, water boards, housing corporations, healthcare institutions, educational institutions, contractors, investors, project developers, architects and many others are active in various fields of private and public law. As a result, you are dealing with a wide range of legal areas for which specialist legal expertise is sometimes required. Kneppelhout has been acting for both public and private legal entities for years. This means we not only have a great deal of substantive knowledge about your sector, but we are also aware of the political, administrative and commercial aspects that are inextricably linked to your work.

AREA DEVELOPMENT AND WATER LAW

Our specialists assist local authorities, water boards and corporations, among others, in area development and redevelopment. For example, the application of the Dutch Municipalities (Preferential Rights) Act and expropriation for the realisation of infrastructure, such as dyke reinforcements or other water management adjustments. We test your plans for these developments in advance and then assist you in court to have those plans implemented. We also advise you on project development and PPP constructions. This advice also concerns contract formation, both for drawing up the necessary contracts and for reviewing them. Aspects such as competition, state aid and tendering obviously play an important role in this.

ENVIRONMENTAL LAW WITH ASPECTS SUCH AS EXTERNAL SAFETY

As a Rotterdam firm, we have many customers who are active in and around the port of Rotterdam. They have to deal with all kinds of specific environmental law aspects. This means we have a great deal of knowledge about external safety, nature conservation and soil pollution. Aspects that governments and institutions are also regularly confronted with.

PROPERTY

A construction project is never just that, but is surrounded by regulations, permissions, permits and contracts. Whether it is commercial property, redevelopment, social housing or an infrastructural project. Laws and regulations are a fact and the interests and the number of stakeholders are often considerable. You are fully aware of that.

In the preliminary phase of a project, we advise on the best contract form to limit the risks for you. During the implementation phase, we know that action must be taken quickly, because unnecessary delays must be prevented.

However, disputes may arise that cannot be resolved quickly. In that case, our lawyers will do everything they can to resolve the dispute in your favour without the intervention of a judge or arbitrator. But sometimes, legal proceedings are unavoidable you have to go to court or the Court of Arbitration for the Building Industry. That is also something Kneppelhout can help you out with because our lawyers have an excellent track record in such legal proceedings.

KEEPING AN OVERVIEW, BALANCING INTERESTS AND PLAYING WITH DIFFERENCES

Whether you are a project developer or investor, working for a corporation or government, you are usually aware of the relevant regulations. The trick is to deal with this effectively. We think from the perspective of the various interests and know how to make maximum use of the space that is available for you.

TO THE POINT, DIRECT AND CLEAR

Our specialists have the knowledge and experience to be able and dare to play with those differences. We work well with both governments and entrepreneurs and have all the specialist areas under a single roof. Because if something goes wrong, we’re right there for you.
