The Act on the Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Wwft) took effect on 1 August 2008. The Wwft replaces the Compulsory Identification Act (WID) and the Disclosure of Unusual Transactions (Financial Services) Act (Wet MOT). The new law requires lawyers, with respect to certain services they provide, to verify the identity of clients and any ultimate beneficial owners before accepting an assignment and to report any unusual transactions to the appropriate authorities.
